Kamala became a disciple of Goswami Kriyananda in Chicago in 1970. She studied and taught at the Temple of Kriya Yoga until 1990, when she and Ken moved to Massachusetts. She continued to attend workshops and retreats with Goswami Kriyananda until his passing in 2015. She met Shelly Trimmer in 1975 and visited him regularly until his passing in 1996. Kamala is a graduate of the Hatha Yoga Teacher Training and is both a graduate and former director of the Kriya Yoga Seminary.

Ken graduated from the Sivananda Hatha Yoga Teachers Training in 1975 and lived in several Yoga and Zen communities until the early 1980's. He came to the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago in 1984 and taught Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Astrology and Sanskrit chanting there until moving to Massachusetts in 1990. He was initiated by Goswami Kriyananda in 1987 and graduated from the Kriya Yoga Seminary in 1988. Ken met Shelly Trimmer in 1987 and visited him regularly until his passing in 1996.
